What is Jonah Beck's problem?

Anyone who has seen Disney Channel's hit drama, Andi Mack, understands the complicated dynamic between Andi and the most popular guy in school, Jonah Beck. This love story is timeless and all too familiar, but there is more than just the Andy Jonah love story. There are complicated elements to Jonah's character that invites the question: what is wrong with this guy?

In the original few episodes he seemed almost too perfect, he was nice to absolutely everyone and was genuinely liked by everyone. The only curious idea was the fact that he was dating a girl in high school. Also, it is strange that a high school girl would fall for him especially since they are at various stages of development. Also, Jonah is a very nice guy, why would he be with someone so mean? I guess the simple answer would be that "opposites attract", but what if, in fact, Jonah Beck himself is not so innocent.

Who is Jonah Beck?

Well, at first glance he seems like a charming, charismatic, athlete that everyone wants to be. Of course for Andi, she is head over heals in love with him, or so she thinks. I believe that this is the way they would like us to view the character, but there are some strange things about Jonah that I hope to exploit. Just like many other viewers, I believed that Jonah Beck was absolutely perfect. I chose to ignore these flaws until the penultimate episode of the series. After Andi told him off I had to rethink the character and I noticed many flaws in the character.

1. Jonah Beck has a weird relationship with feet.

In the first episode, he mentions that he knows Andi from school and that he recognizes her feet. Who does this? I mean, it would be cool if he said he could never forget her shoes because they were cool, but he specifically said feet. Most people find feet repulsive but Jonah Beck is able to get away with it because he has a pretty face, and Andi falls for that every time.

2. He is huge on peer pressure.

Jonah Beck makes it very clear what he wants Andi to do from the very first episode. He pressures her into joining the Ultimate Frisbee Team. He specifically tells Andi that she enjoys doing this and that he knows that she enjoys doing this. Andi tries to explain that she doesn't really enjoy playing sports, but Jonah gets the best of her.

3. His popularity makes no sense.

In episode 2, Andi's friends are obsessing over the fact that she is playing frisbee with Jonah Beck. This highlights his popularity, especially since they all have gone to the same school. They freak out when he goes over to them, and they harp on his words. Buffy starts to get offended when he calls them "disc-heads", almost as though she was expecting him to insult them. The issue with this is that Buffy is surprised that he is down to earth, but there is nothing in the show to suggest where he developed his popularity. In episode 4, Cyrus feels like he is being attacked, Jonah said he needed to talk to him. This and the fact that Buffy felt like she was being threatened shows a bullying aspect to him that hasn't been revealed. It could be that Jonah is simply just a master manipulator.  In the penultimate episode of season 1,  Amber and her friends make fun of the fact that frisbee isn't a real sport.

4. He is vain

Most of the compliments he makes are because someone did something for him. He compliments Andi when he makes her a bracelet. He compliments a frisbee player when he injures himself at practice, he compliments Cyrus when he helps out the frisbee team(though, I am skeptical about the gnarly/girly text). He doesn't make remarks about the general character of a person, just their deeds in relation to him. Andi and Cyrus meant nothing to him until they contributed to the frisbee team.

Jonah doesn't take the time to care about others like when Cyrus threw up in his shoe, Jonah didn't reassure him that everything would be alright. Everyone just made things awkward by leaving silently. This is an embarrassing moment for Cyrus because he had just thrown up in his shoe, and he had to throw it away. Jonah does nothing to make him feel better about the embarrassing day that he had. This proves that he and Cyrus aren't really friends.

5. "You're a great boyfriend, but not a great friend"

This is probably the best statement made about Jonah Beck. Andi stated this in the episode "He said, She said" when Jonah didn't believe Andi when she said that she saw Amber drawing a heart on another guy. This was the first moment where Andi was able to see the real Jonah. He is a guy who puts his relationships before his friendships. This is also the first time that Jonah truly lets Andi down, and it breaks her heart.

He can be a real jerk.

This is made abundantly clear when he hangs out with Cyrus for the second time. That episode showed a very different side of Jonah. He and Cyrus had planned to match jackets from the game they went to, but Jonah hadn't followed through mentioning that he didn't want them to look "like a couple of dorks". This seemed out of character for Jonah, he didn't seem like the type to use derogatory terms toward anyone. Also, he implied that Cyrus looked like a dork, further hurting his feelings.

What's next?

Well, I guess we won't know officially what will happen with Jonah's character, but for now, it is fun to see both sides of Jonah. He is not completely pure as the show had painted him on the surface, but that doesn't clear him of being an antagonist in some sense. Hopefully, we can go back to the Jonah we all know and love in season 2.

Greedy Much?

YES!!! Lee Norris is definitely a face I have missed in the Girl Meets World, world. I cannot wait for this seemingly spoof of Shark Tank. If the four of them are competing in a Shark Tank type scenario, then it's obvious that only Farkle can create something that amazing. My only issue is that he isn't necessarily business savvy, but he is brilliant.

Girl Meets Mr. Squirrels Goes to Washington

This episode almost had me in tears. Now this episode is definitely my second favorite episode right after "Girl Meets Rileytown". It was truly an emotional experience for Boy Meets World fans and Girl Meets World fans alike! I cannot wait to share my thoughts.
The Lesson: The lesson here was the power of the media. That was the main point, but it was really to inspire children to become more interested in politics. It's supposed to inspire kids to be able to do anything. I really enjoyed how it showed adults struggling just as much as children.

Welcome Eric: Now Eric was extremely exciting in this episode. He had a ton of hilarious lines in this episode but also a lot of heart. I really like how they incorporate children into his campaign. The children were connected to the world in powerful ways. They have social media and an instant connection to the world. They're also the future and Eric saw that, and believed in them.

T.J.........Nope....too soon!

Lucaya: Well, well that ending provided strong hints of Lucaya becoming a thing. Of course it was set up by Eric earlier but that is beside the point. Maya called out Lucas and tried to cover her tracks by saying "I like us all very much". C'mon Maya, we know you're secretly loving on him.

Harley: He has a strong connection to these kids. This is very admirable, since janitor Bud wasn't much of a presence in Boy Meets World. It is really nice to see a voter being able to speak up for the children.

TJ: OK now this was a shocker, and is still a hard part to sit through. Thomas Jonathan Murphy was a beautiful touch to Eric's campaign. The flashbacks from the boy meets world episode with Tommy is just a bit too much. It brings a fresh emotional reminder and a beautiful sense of closure for those looking for more resolution in that story line. It definitely was a game changer.

"But those guys weren't real": I was really impressed with how well Girl Meets World brought up the Richard Nixon vs John F. Kennedy election. They a lot of humor to it and also made it easily understandable for children. Great Job, Disney Channel!

The Media: The media was introduced in the end of this episode, after Tommy's big reveal all of the students pulled out their phones and recorded what happened next. Farkle being a genius used a little more than enough. It was a perfect demonstration of how the media can be used in a positive light.
Favorite Lines:
"Eric: I'm supposed to
Corey: That's BABIES, you maroon. You're supposed to kiss BABIES"

"Eric: How many do we have robot?
Farkle: one
Eric: How many do we need robot?
Farkle: three million
Eric: Now burn me with your laser eyes"

"Maya: Eric it's Moesha, we need you"

"Lucas: So, what are you going to do if you win?
Eric: I'm going to adopt, Tommy"

"Eric: No, I don't have kids, but I do have a niche, and her brother WHO'S MY COUSIN AUGGIE"

"Eric: I'm gonna miss you scarecrow, lion, Dorthy....robot....I think I'll miss you most of all"

Final Thoughts: This episode was extremely well written. I have watched it a million times, and it hasn't gotten old. I would rank this episode as my second favorite after "Girl Meets Rileytown" bumping "Girl Meets Flaws" to my third favorite episode.

Tune in Friday, January 22, for a brand new episode called "Girl Meets Money"

UH-OH! Here we go!

Is there ethnocentrism in the air? I see a Farkle who's ego is going to far! Did I see a moment between Lucas and Maya? Maybe this isnt the Lucaya episode we have been hoping for, but it might still be satisfying. Oh Wait! Is that Yogi being sacrificed? WOW! Yea we have a lot to learn. I am very curious as to what theroies I will come up with as to why the name of the episode was changed from Girl Meets Sludge to Gitl Meets STEM!

Girl Meets Hurricane

"Life puts people in front of us so that we can be prepared of what comes next"
This episode was really nice, we finally had some resolution to the drama that came with Shawn and Maya's mother. I am so excited to share my thoughts.

The breakup: So this episode starts as an awkward moment between Riley and Corey. She breaks up with him, which I felt could have been a really strong parallel to Riley outgrowing her father. The only problem is that there wasn't enough evidence in the episode to confirm my theory. It's still a cute scene.

Shawn and Maya: It's really nice to see a father figure enter Maya's life. This also happens to have a positive influence on Maya's life. Shawn starts by not wanting to hurt Maya's feelings by giving her advice. He tell her that she should change her clothes. Maya really loves that Shawn cares so much. She also starts believing in hope. It is clear that Maya's life hasn't been easy in the slightest so this was a huge deal.

Mamma knows best: Maya's mom loves having Shawn around, but she knows that Shawn isn't consistent. She knows that as a writer he is always traveling, and she doesn't want Maya to be hurt by the fact that he isn't a constant. Then Shawn turns around and gives her mom credit for the clothes he bought her. From there she goes to attacking Shawn accusing him that the feelings that he has for Maya are being confused with the feelings he has for her. He denies this. We learn that in reality, she is confusing her feelings for Kermit(her ex-husband), with her feelings for Shawn.

The Lesson: The Lesson was about New Orleans, and how the city is always under attack by hurricanes. It is not a safe place to live, but people have hurricane parties and barbecues. They have hope, and that's what keeps their city alive and beautiful. The lesson parallels with Maya because the hope that she has for her life being better is what makes her beautiful.

Angela: WOW! I did not expect to see her. This is really weird, and it looks like another hurricane has entered Maya's life until, Angela dumps Shawn again. We quickly find out that she is engaged, and we see Shawn's heart break again. She brings up moments from the past, and she really just came to talk to Shawn.

Daddy: Shawn's Dad was revived in spirit through this episode and nearly brought back the sad memories from Boy Meets World. If you watched Boy Meets World, you had to shed a tear at that amazing scene.

Final Thoughts: This episode was awesome. I mean it was really nice to see Angela and follow the crisis's of her, Shawn, and Maya. I really enjoyed Angela being the push that Shawn needed to get to know Maya's mom better. So far this season has picked up and dropped that story line so much. I feel it becoming the final endgame but Shawn and Maya's mom are way too nervous to become anything at this point.

Heads up

Hey all you Riarkles and Lucayas,

Just letting you know that I am going to backtrack and blog about episodes of Girl Meets World again, starting from "Girl Meets Hurricane" I have some time since the new episode doesn't come out until January 8th!

Joshua Harris

Barry and Marcy?!?!?! Best friends whenever

Was I the only one that was completely blind sighted  by this? I totally thought that it would be Naldo and Marci. I mean come on! Marci and Naldo both like  "Spark Dynamo". Then there is the fact that Naldo likes being around really smart people and helping them out with their science experiments. Then there s also the fact that Marci seems to like guys that aren't as smart as her. Does anyone remember Cameron? The guy that Cid tried to ask out, but Cameron thought that Marci was asking him so he went with her. Then they ended up dating for a while! Yea, so it only makes sense that Naldo and Marci would be together. Marci and Barry don't make a good couple. They are both really smart which means that they'll always be in competition to prove that they're smarter than the other person! I think the writers are trying to make Naldo and Cid a couple. I mean Cid was in love with Naldo in 4th grade. Those feelings could resurface again...I guess we'll have to wait and see!
